Dear Friend of Bishop Molloy Retreat House,
We are happy
to tell you that the number of retreatants grew and our financial picture improved somewhat again this past year. Our professionally
estimated cost per retreatant dropped from $250.00 to $210.00. The average donation per Retreatant grew to about $200.00.
We are close to covering our operational costs with the income from our programs. This is a significant
Our financial report for 2012-2013 is available in the Bishop Molloy Lounge along with the
reports of the previous three years and the report of the 2004-2009 Capital Campaign. As
we were planning our 2013-2014 budget, we sought professional advice on some large capital projects we had been advised to
undertake. The resulting clarifications and advice resulted in considerable modifications and cost savings in our final budget.
This summer we blocked seepage into our basement stair well, and repaired water leaks within the 2nd
and 3rd floor walls affecting four guest rooms and refinished the damaged walls (cost: $5,054.00
not including the many hours put in by our own maintenance man).
We have hired
a new cook, ordered a new stove, and refurbished the vent over the stove for our kitchen. The combined new stove and repaired
vent bring us into full compliance with the applicable safety code.
The combined cost for this is $12,000.00 of which $5,000.00 has already been donated.
next spring we will need to replace the Air Conditioner for the Lounge (estimated cost: $25,000.00). We need a new industrial
clothes washer and drier (estimated cost $12,000) and new computers for administration and secretary which are adequate for
all of our financial, e-communication and paper communication functions (estimated cost $1,600.00). These capital costs are
above and beyond our operational costs.
